Empowering Mothers of Incarcerated Children
At A Mother's Cry, we understand the challenges faced by mothers with incarcerated children. We strive to provide community outreach events and lifestyle resources that address the comprehensive impact of mass incarceration on families. Our mission is to make a lasting impact on the lives of these mothers and their children. In addition, the A Mother's Cry vision is to become not just an organization, but a powerful, transformative movement—a living, breathing source of healing, advocacy, and empowerment for mothers across the nation.
We seek to be a trusted bridge and referral source, connecting mothers from all walks of life to the resources, support, and communities they need in critical areas such as mental health, self-care, spiritual healing, maternal health, justice reform, and confronting systemic biases and racism.
Through compassion, collaboration, and a relentless commitment to justice and restoration, A Mother’s Cry will stand as a beacon of hope and action, nurturing a nationwide sisterhood that uplifts, strengthens, and leads lasting change—for ourselves, our families, and generations to come.

Our Story
A Mother's Cry is a Maryland-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting mothers with incarcerated children nationwide. Since 2000, we have been providing resources and community outreach events that address the financial, social, and emotional challenges faced by these families. We believe in taking action with urgency and strive to make a positive impact with all of our pursuits.

A Mother’s Cry (AMC) is a justice-centered nonprofit advocating for dignity, accountability, and humane treatment for incarcerated individuals and their families. Rooted in the lived experiences of mothers, AMC provides advocacy, education, and healing-centered support while amplifying voices too often ignored. We believe justice must be compassionate, restorative, and grounded in love.
Our Programs
A Mother's Cry is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before, and we are very proud of the progress we continue to make. Below are some of our most recent projects. Learn more about what we do, who we help, and how we work every day to create a lasting impact.

Community Outreach
Lifestyle Resources
Through our Community Outreach and Lifestyle Resources programs, we provide much-needed support for mothers with incarcerated children. We offer a variety of services that address the financial, social, and emotional challenges faced by these families.

Sylvia's Sister Circle
Supporting Sisterhood
Addressing maternal health, maternal mental health, incarcerated mothers and domestic violence through sisterhood. Honoring and remembering black mothers like Sylvia, who died in 2005 due to an infection related to pregnancy.

Activism
Against Mass Incarceration
A Mother's Cry partners and collaborates with other organizations that seek to guide lawmakers on the type of legislation that support families, and stop the massive incarceration of men and boys. Understanding which groups have been the primary targets of mass incarceration is crucial in comprehending the significance of current efforts to reform the criminal justice system. By acknowledging the disproportionate impact of mass incarceration on certain communities, we can work towards creating a more just and equitable system for all.

Advocacy
Creating Change
A Mother's Cry is a leader in advocating for the rights of mothers with incarcerated children and their families. We work to raise public awareness about the challenges faced by these families and advocate for policy changes that address the root causes of mass incarceration.
